I began my career as a respiratory therapist, where I learned the importance of care, precision, and service. But it wasn’t until I became a mother that my path started to shift. I found myself drawn into the world of early childhood education, a field my family had long been part of.
Stepping into a leadership role at our family-run childcare center was a defining chapter. I grew into a director, shaped the center’s vision, and helped it evolve into a space that provided not just education, but health and social services too. That experience sharpened my skills in operations, team-building, and community care—and it deepened my understanding of what young children and families really need.
Even as my career moved between industries, fashion remained a constant. For me, it has always been a form of storytelling and identity—especially as a Muslim woman navigating spaces where modest fashion wasn’t always visible or accessible. That tension lit a fire in me. I wanted to design clothing that speaks to comfort, dignity, and self-expression without compromise.
Now, I’m taking a bold step forward by going back to school to study fashion design. It’s not just about learning new skills—it’s about honoring a lifelong passion and modeling for my children that it’s never too late to pursue what lights you up. I want them to see learning as a lifelong path, not just a phase.
Studyus Monday will be a place to document this creative and personal evolution. Here, I’ll share:
Stories from fashion school and balancing life as a mom, student, and entrepreneur
Thoughts on modest fashion, ethical design, and building inclusive brands
Reflections for anyone navigating change, chasing big goals, or building something from the ground up
I believe there’s room in fashion for more honesty, more diversity, and more heart—and I hope to be part of shaping that space. Thank you for reading, and for walking alongside me as I figure it all out, one step at a time.
With warmth,
Nawal Alsaeed
